Citizens rally for Superior’s animals

Citizens opposed to the idea of shipping Superior’s animals to Duluth are planning a protest at 5:45 p.m. tonight outside the Government Center.

It will be a calm, orderly protest at the entrance to the complex, Jay Johnson of Superior posted on Facebook.

He said there will be signs printed up and protesters will simply be holding them up as council members walk past to get in the building.

Deanna Fetters of Superior said there will be no shouting or anything like that, because they just want councilors to know people of Superior care about their animals. Following the protest, some of the protestors plan to address the council before they vote on proposal to negotiate with the city of Duluth to take Superior’s stray animals.

The proposal anticipates a less costly option than building and operating a shelter in Superior.

The City Council meets at 6:30 p.m. tonight in Room 201 of the Government Center.
