Superior man arrested for chat-based sex crime

Superior Telegram

A Superior man accused of offering money to underage girls to Skype naked with him has been arrested.

Curtis Bobby Schlies, 36, faces a charge of attempted sexual exploitation of a child based on three online chat sessions that took place on a social networking site, Tagged.com. He failed to make an initial appearance in Douglas County Circuit Court on Dec. 2 and an arrest warrant was issued. He was booked into the Douglas County Jail on Dec. 18.

According to the criminal complaint:

A tip from the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation was forwarded to the Lake Superior Forensic Technology and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force for investigation on Aug. 14. A user with the screen name “Bobby S” was chatting using the site July 17. In the first chat session, Bobby S asks “Cecillia M” if she is younger than 16. When she tells him she is 15, he offers her money if she will Skype naked with him and perform a sexual act.

In a second online chat session, the female Bobby S was chatting with says she is 18. He asks if she has a younger sister and offers her “$30 for your sister on cam?” In the third chat, he asks if the other party is younger than 16. “If you are than I have an offer for you.” The other party stated she’s 18 and that she has a 17-year-old sister. Bobby S asks if she knows any females age 10-16 who would “be naked” “and play,” offering to pay as much as $40.

The internet user was traced to Schlies’ address in Superior.

A search warrant was executed at the residence Nov. 12 and a laptop was found.

In an interview with Douglas County Detective John Parenteau, Schlies admitted to being involved in the three chats. He said he was intoxicated at the time.
