Search warrant nets drugs, guns
Law enforcement officers executing search warrants in the Red Cliff area of Bayfield County netted nearly 20 pounds of marijuana, thousands of dollars in cash and more than a dozen guns.
Bayfield County Sheriffs Office deputies and agents from the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) executed the search warrants early Monday morning, according to a news release from Bayfield County Chief Deputy Paul Susienka.
The warrants were the result of a long-term drug investigation conducted by DCI special agents. Two hand guns and 11 long guns, more than 19 pounds of marijuana and approximately $6,100 in cash were seized in the raid, the release stated. Two men, Tyrone W. Butterfield, 31, and Elmer D. Saari, 30, were arrested and brought to the Bayfield County Jail.
The investigation is continuing and more arrests may follow.
Other officers assisting in the search were from the Northwest Area Crime Unit, comprised officers from Ashland, Superior, and Spooner police departments, and Burnett, Sawyer and Washburn County sheriff's deputies. Native American Drug/Gang Initiative Officers from the Lac du Flambeau Tribal Police, Oneida Tribal Police and the St. Croix Tribal Police also assisted along with a Wisconsin State Patrol K-9 unit and the U.S. Border Patrol
This operation was an excellent example of cooperation between federal, state, county, and local officers sharing resources to combat crime, Susienka stated.
