Two people have been arrested and are in custody as suspects in an apparent homicide in Ashland earlier this week.

Ashland police on Wednesday said two suspects, a man and woman, were apprehended Tuesday with the help of the Duluth and Superior police departments and the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities did not release the names of the suspects, who have not yet been formally charged in court.

Police were called to 222 12th Ave. E. at about 11:38 Sunday night on a tip that a man there may be injured and need assistance. Police had to break into the home, and found Marcus H. Holton, 52, of Odanah, deceased.

Police called the death an apparent homicide. The Wisconsin State Crime Lab and Wisconsin State Patrol responded and are continuing to process the scene. Results of an autopsy at the medical examiner’s office in Madison, Wis., have not yet been released.
