Sheriff's office warns of phone scam

Duluth News Tribune

The caller claims to be a law enforcement officer and tells you that you “have missed federal jury duty and have arrest warrants.”

The caller goes on to tell you that you can clear up the warrants by sending cash or some other form of payment.

It’s a lie.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office on Monday warned residents of the scam, which has resulted in a number of recent reports, according to a news release.

The Sheriff’s Office will not call residents demanding payments over the phone to clear up arrest warrants, the news release stated.

Residents are urged to not divulge any financial or credit card information or agree to send any kind of payment if they receive such a call. Those with questions should call their local law enforcement agency.
