Police investigate armed robbery at Super 8 Motel
Superior police are investigating an early Wednesday morning armed robbery at the Super 8 Motel, 4901 E. Second St.
According to a news release issued by the Superior Police Department:
Officers were called to the motel shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday on a report of an armed robbery.
A perimeter was established and the clerk was interviewed for initial information.
A Duluth police K-9 Unit responded to assist in any tracking possibilities.
The lone female clerk was working the front desk when the suspect entered through the main lobby doors. She described the suspect as a male wearing dark clothing with his face covered. He was also brandishing a dark colored handgun. The clerk cooperated and gave the suspect the money and he fled on foot out of the building.
The clerk immediately locked the doors and called 911.
Tracking the suspect with a K-9 was unsuccessful and police believe the suspect possibly had a car waiting or parked in the area.
Ashland County reported a very similar Super 8 Motel robbery about two hours earlier there.
It is possible the two cases are related but it is too early in the investigation to confirm that, according to Derrick Hughes, sergeant of investigations.
