Residents pining for Kwik Trip milk, coffee or Glazers Donuts can get them locally starting next week.

True to its name, the first Kwik Trip in Superior opens next week, four months after ground was broken for the store. Kwik Trip spokesman Steve Wrobel confirmed the 24-hour convenience store on the corner of Tower Avenue and North 28th Street will open at 5 a.m. Thursday.

A grand opening and ribbon cutting is slated for 11 a.m. Sept. 3. Wrobel said quite a crowd is expected as the area welcomes the first of eight new Kwik Trips slated to open in the Twin Ports before the end of the year.

“There’s lots of excitement,” said Wrobel, who spent much of this week in Superior. “I think it’s a really neat thing to see; people are excited to open the stores up.”

The second Superior Kwik Trip, along East Second Street, at the site of the former Nemadji Travel Plaza, is scheduled to open its doors at 5 a.m. Sept. 25, with a ribbon cutting set for 11 a.m. Oct. 11. A third Kwik Trip under construction at Banks Avenue and Belknap Street, is tentatively slated to open in October.

In all, Kwik Trip plans to open eight stores in the Twin Ports in 2014. The La Crosse-based company, which opened its first store in 1965 in Eau Claire, has grown to encompass more than 450 stores in three states. In 2013, the company was named one the 21st best workplace in America by the Top Workplaces program, which recognizes employers based on employee opinions.

While new Kwik Trip employees are training at the Superior Business Center, Wrobel said more co-workers are needed. The business expects to employ about 400 in the Twin Ports. The company is still taking applications. People can apply online or watch for upcoming job fairs through the website,
