Adopting a cat will be a little harder to resist on Monday. That’s the day the Humane Society of Douglas County will launch a “name your fee” promotion for adult cats.

“Adopters can name their own adoption fee,” said Shelter Director Sheila Keup. “We’ll honor any fee they choose.”

The shelter has about 20 cats seeking homes, some of them as young as one year old. All are spayed or neutered and some are even declawed.

“We’ve got some great cats here,” Keup said.

They also have a bumper crop of kittens. That leaves the shelter’s cats at a disadvantage.

“We’ve had a lot of kittens adopted,” Keup said, but “The cats are sitting.”

The personalized fee applies to adult cats only. Although the humane society hasn’t held a “name your price” event before, Keup said similar promotions have been successful at other shelters. The self-pricing begins Monday at the county shelter at 3302 S. Humane Society Road in South Range. Operating hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
