ESD tackles sewer overflows

Superior’s Environmental Services Division released notice of two sewer overflows last week.

One occurred at the main wastewater treatment plan, 51 E. First St, on April 24. The 30-minute even released about 140 gallons of wastewater.

The second occurred at the sanitary sewer overflow at East Third Street between 25th and 26th avenues east. The overflow occurred April 25 and again April 30 as a result of sewage seeping from a structurally compromised interceptor sewer. Steps have been taken to mitigate the problem, according to Chris Carlson, collection system engineering and operations manager with the Environmental Services Division.
