Walker declares propane energy emergency
Bitter cold mixed with a driver's shortage and long wait times at propane terminals has led Gov. Scott Walker to declare a state of emergency.
The move loosens restrictions on carriers and drivers obtaining and transporting propane, exempting them from federal and state hours-of-service requirements, for 30 days. The energy emergency began Dec. 29 and expires Jan. 28.
"As Wisconsin faces extreme temperatures, we want to do everything we can to ensure people who rely on propane for heat have access to it," Walker said in a press release. "This executive order is a move to alleviate the propane shortage while ensuring the safety of drivers who are doing the important work of transporting it."
