The Challenge Center and North Country Independent Living were among the 52 agencies in urban and rural areas to receive awards for 2018 to support local transportation options for seniors and individuals with disabilities.
The Challenge Center will receive $53,600 for a medium-sized bus and $44,000 for a gas-powered minibus.
North Country Independent Living, which serves Ashland, Bayfield, Burnett, Douglas, Iron, Price, Sawyer and Washburn counties was awarded $137,411 for vouchers and volunteer drivers, and $25,611 for a mobility manager.
Gov. Scott Walker announced the awards of state and federal dollars last week that help local public entities and private, nonprofit agencies provide transportation services such as mobility management, operating assistance and vehicle purchases.
