Superior police respond to pipeline protest
Superior police were called to the Enbridge construction site on the 500 block of North 58th Street at about 6:30 a.m. today to deal with pipeline protesters. According to Assistant Police Chief Matt Markon, about 10 people were protesting, including two who had chained themselves to poles.
One person has been arrested at this point, according to Markon.
On-duty officers responded to the site and an additional officer was called in, according to Markon. He said it appears the protesters were trying to block machinery that was set to be moved.
“Every time protesters decide to blockade what the pipeline companies are doing, it does take away from coverage for the rest of the city,” Markon said, and they place themselves in danger.
In addition, the protesters are trespassing.
