Jeff Foster truck, driver aiding in hurricane relief in Puerto Rico
A tanker truck and driver from Superior's Jeff Foster Trucking are on the ground in Puerto Rico as part of the relief efforts following Hurricane Maria.
Driver Wade Grenke of Oconto Falls, Wis., and his truck are parked at a Federal Emergency Management Agency camp; the truck with its cargo of diesel was taken by barge to the island, and Grenke arrived Oct. 2, the company reported Thursday.
Debris-covered roads have prevented the large truck from traveling around the island, but it's serving as a fueling station for smaller trucks that are able to traverse the roads.
Grenke has been on the road for well over a month, leaving for Houston on Aug. 29 to help with fuel delivery in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, and then being dispatched to Naples, Fla., after Hurricane Irma before heading to Puerto Rico.
The company said Grenke is staying in his truck — it carries a silver ribbon on the side to highlight diabetes awareness, part of Jeff Foster Trucking’s fleet of “awareness trucks."
Grenke "is likely to spend the rest of the year in Puerto Rico" to help with the rebuilding effort, the company reported.
