Driver hurt when car hits horses on central MN highway

HEWITT, Minn. -- A Breckenridge, Minn. man was hurt when the car he was driving hit two horses that were standing on a highway in Todd County in central Minnesota.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the accident happened just west of Hewitt around 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, July 8.

The driver, 66-year-old David Schetnan, was westbound on Highway 210 near 121st Avenue. The patrol said as he came over a hill, the vehicle struck two horses that were standing in the westbound lane of the highway.

Schetnan was transported by ambulance to Tri-County hospital in Wadena for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.

Both of the horses died.

The Todd County Sheriff’s Department, Hewitt Fire Department and Tri-county Ambulance assisted the State Patrol with the accident response.
