Injured Army veterans talks about overcoming adversity
Jason Church, a motivational speaker, is coming to the Douglas County.
Church joined the ROTC program at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and he Upon graduation in 2011, he received a commission as a 2nd Lt. in the Army as an infantry officer when he graduated in 2011. After completing U.S. Army Ranger School, he was deployed to Afghanistan.
In August 2012, Church was struck by an IED while conducting a daily patrol, resulting in the loss of both of his legs. Through more than 20 surgeries and months of rehabilitation and physical therapy, he never gave up. He recently retired as a captain from the U.S. Army and now speaks to organizations about his experience tackling adversity.
He will be speaking at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Richard I. Bong Center, 305 Harbor View Parkway. The event is free to the public.
Church also plans stops at schools in Minong, Solon Springs and Northwestern earlier in the day.
