Student could face battery charge in stabbing
The incident took place after school Thursday in Poplar while the bus, with middle school students aboard, was waiting to pick up students at Northwestern Elementary School, according to a Douglas County Sheriff's Office report.
The victim, 12, told Deputy Robert Smith the incident was triggered when the other boy flipped him off and he replied by calling it a friendly hand gesture, at which time the boy kicked the victim.
The alleged attacker said the incident started when the victim and others were talking about him and wouldn't stop when he asked. He told Smith the victim hit him first, so he hit back.
The 12-year-old was stabbed in the nose and the stomach with the pen.
Middle School Principal Greg Blair told the officer the 11-year-old was suspended until Monday.
Smith forwarded the case to juvenile intake for a possible battery charge, according to the report.
