If sinking your teeth into a juicy burger topped with Wisconsin cheese is one of your pleasures, be sure to tune in to the Discover Wisconsin at 5:30 p.m. June 26 for a television special "Quest for the Best Cheeseburger."
The program, a joint effort of the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board and Discover Wisconsin, takes a look at some of the best places in the state where you can enjoy a special burger topped with award-winning Wisconsin cheese.
Included in the cheeseburger-filled state tour are stops in Seymour-Home of the Hamburger, Culver's Original Butter Burgers in Sauk City, Kroll's West in Green Bay, Brewery Creek in Mineral Point, Titletown Brewing Company in Green Bay, Dotty Dumpling's Dowry, Madison, Milwaukee Brewing Company ironically located in Eau Claire, Graze in Madison, Sobelmans Pub & Grill and Elsa's On the Park in Milwaukee, the Wausau Mine Company, the Minocqua Brewing Company in Minocqua and northern Wisconsin's Soft Pines Resort -- which offers 41 varieties of burgers topped with Wisconsin cheese, wings and homemade pizzas.
Although the cheeseburger may have started as a simple beef patty topped with American cheese, some ketchup, mustard and a bun, nowadays it comes with creative and delectable embellishments in many of the finest burger joints in Wisconsin. The show's mission is to track down the most outstanding.
The adventure starts with a little history about the hamburger, and then plunges into the many ways that burgers are topped; starting with "buttered burgers" -- topped with pats of real Wisconsin butter and cheese, including some of the best Wisconsin artisan cheeses. Along the way, the show stops at places that have consistently been nominated Best Burger joints, establishments that are known for making colossal burgers - the kind that leave you begging for mercy, as well as some hidden regional gems where you can simply sink your teeth into a great burger topped with Wisconsin cheese.
