Five indviduals, 1952 Cathedral football team among 2010 HOF inductees

The Superior Academic and Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2010 has been announced.

Joining the Academic Hall of Fame will be Fay Hubbard and Oliver E. Williamson, while named to the Athletic Hall of Fame were Robert W. Olson, Bruce Mathison, Jim Susens and the 1952 Cathedral High School football team.

The Superior Academic and Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony is at the Superior Middle School at 5 p.m. on Saturday March 27. Tickets cost $40 and are currently on sale. Tickets may be purchased at the Superior High School treasurers office, the Superior Chamber of Commerce or the School District of Superior board office.

All money raised from the Hall of Fame induction ceremony goes to help support Superior High School academic and athletic teams.

Following are bios on this year's inductees.

Academic Hall of Fame

Fay Hubbard was given the Community/Employee/Advisor/Volunteer Award. She was a teacher for the School District of Superior and SHS FBLA advisor for several years. She helped the SHS FBLA Chapter win state for 21 consecutive years.

Lifetime Achievement Award: Oliver E. Williamson graduated from Superior Central High School in 1950 and is currently a professor in economics at the University of California-Berkeley. Most recently he was recognized for winning the 2009 Nobel Prize in Economic Science.

Athletic Hall of Fame

Individual Athletic Accomplishment awards went to Robert W. Olson and Bruce Mathison.

Olson graduated from Superior Central High School in 1954. He was an exceptional three-sport athlete in football, basketball and baseball. After graduation he went to the University of Minnesota on a basketball scholarship.

Matheson graduated from SSHS in 1977. He was a letter winner in football, basketball and track. He went to the University of Nebraska on a football scholarship and lettered two years. He was drafted into the NFL by the San Diego Chargers and spent eight years playing for the Chargers, Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks.
