Family-friendly event focuses on better health
The annual Community Health and Wellness Expo runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mariner Mall in Superior.
This free family-friendly event is a showcase of area organizations and businesses that support and enhance the health and wellness of Douglas County citizens. People attending the expo will be able to speak to area agencies and health care professionals about a variety of topics. There will be varied exhibitors with displays, information and free samples.
For years, the Northwest Wisconsin Lead-free Program has hosted a table. They expect to be answering a lot more questions in the wake of the water crisis in Flint, Mich. Corrosive river water flowing through lead pipes leached the toxic element out into Flint’s tap water, making it undrinkable.
"This year it’s a much bigger issue," said Judi Walker, a member of the lead-free group. They can provide basic information on the many places lead can be found from water pipes to paint chips and toys.
Senior Connections hosts the hospitality table. Stop by for refreshments and be sure to pick up your free copy of the 2016 Senior & Caregiver Guide for Douglas County. This publication is a comprehensive directory of agencies, products and services available to Douglas County residents.
