Planning underway for coolest festival
The Lake Superior Ice Festival, a community-driven event celebrating the coolest aspects of our region, is gearing up.
Area businesses and community organizations come together to continue expanding the community festival at Barker's Island.
The festival starts Jan. 26 and runs one weekend, through Jan. 28. It kicks off at 6 p.m. Jan. 26 with the first game of the Great Lakes Pond Hockey Tournament, then police and firefighters take to the ice at 7 p.m. for the Guns & Hoses pond hockey game. On Jan. 27, there are a variety of events including ice sculptures, ice racing, Enbridge/UPI half-pipe snow slide, kids zone with ice princesses and other characters, bonfires and s'mores, live radio broadcasts, live music Friday and Saturday, and a beautiful fireworks show Saturday night.
