The Spartans have nine games scheduled next week beginning at 4 p.m. Monday at Grantsburg. Afar playing Tuesday at Proctor, Superior will host Duluth East for a doubleheader on Thursday and Eau Claire Memorial for a doubleheader on Friday before wrapping up the week with three games in the Becker Tournament on Saturday.
Without Teagen Harings on the mound and Lisa Featherly behind the plate, the Northwood Evergreens would have been a very different team this season.
The same can be said for Northwestern High School, where Liz Urbaniak and Tiana Arseneau rotated at pitcher and Kelcee Janigo anchored the catching position.
With the Northwood softball team’s conference opener against Cameron looming on the horizon, Teagen Harings should have been thinking about the pitches she’d throw to shut down the Comets.
Instead she found herself sitting in an emergency room, anxiously awaiting a diagnosis.
“I think I cried that day more than I have any day,” Harings said. “I was so scared.”
The Superior High School baseball and softball teams both kept their playoff hopes alive with one-point victories, while the Solon Springs and Northwestern baseball teams both pulled off upsets to advance in their brackets Tuesday.
The Northwood Evergreens didn’t let a season-ending injury to a key player stop them from taking another step in the WIAA softball tournament Tuesday afternoon as Northwood handed the Solon Springs Eagles 14-0 defeat in five innings.
