The region’s largest medical system has pledged to buy 20 percent of its food — hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth each year — from local sources by 2020, another sign of a growing local food movement taking hold across the Northland.
Texas-based Dickey’s Barbecue Pit, the fastest growing barbecue restaurant chain in the country, is coming to Duluth. If a Canal Park site is chosen, it could pit Dickey’s against Famous Dave’s Bar-B-Que, already in Canal Park.
The Red Mug Coffeehouse, Sharon’s Lakeview Café and Chester Creek Café have joined restaurants around the country in pledging to set aside a portion of their profits to help those directly affected by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
