Major papers with large circulations included Skandinaven in Chicago and Decorah Posten in Iowa, but mostly there were modest-sized journals that flourished for a time in regions where many immigrants had settled, such as Superior Tidende in Wisconsin, which competed from the 1880s to the 1960s with the Duluth Skandinav.

If it’s the season to be jolly, why are some folks wringing their hands? Because they’re gripped by the great “Christmas” debate: Dare they decorate their workplace? Can they even use the word? After all, there’s always the possibility of offending non Christians.
Journalism came easier when I was employed at The Telegram from 1984 to 1995. It was the only locally owned news media in town. WEBC Radio and WDSM-TV (now KBJR) had left Superior years earlier, so there was much loyalty attached to the newspaper.
Rapid technological advances are propelling lifestyle changes at an ever-growing rate.
