Wisconsin and Minnesota residents and businesses affected by severe storms and flooding on June 19-20 can apply for low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration, SBA Administrator Karen G. Mills announced today.
Some residents in the central Wisconsin town of Portage fled their homes after a levee started to fail, sending water from the rain-swollen Wisconsin River onto a major roadway in one neighborhood and threatening to leave some people stranded in their houses.
Heavy rain has flooded parts of a small western Wisconsin community, where authorities have ordered a mandatory evacuation downtown, schools and roads have closed and local manufacturing has been put on hold Thursday.
Spring brings melting snowpack and rain, and several states in the upper Midwest are now prepping for heavy floods. But so far, Wisconsin’s forecast isn’t as dire.
