Lake Superior anglers near Duluth and Superior may soon be catching a new strain of brown trout. In late May, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources stocked about 60,000 Seeforellen-strain brown trout in Lake Superior waters near Superior. The fish were 5 to 6 inches long.
My Jeep was under the weather the entire summer last year and I wasn’t able to get my boat in the water, not even once. Seriously, not once.
So I got the Jeep fixed over the winter and was prepared to put the boat in the water this year, and then the outboard motor went out.
The fate of the Brule Hatchery will be the subject of a public meeting in Brule on April 26.
The meeting, beginning at 7 p.m., will be held at the Brule Town Hall (5820 S. Maple Street). Dennis Smet, chair of the Brule Town Board, said he hopes for a strong turnout.
My angling buddy Dangerous Dan Bloomquist phoned last Sunday night. He always phones after he has spent some time on the Brule River over in Douglas County.
“I caught the biggest steelhead I’ve ever caught in my life today,” Dan said into the phone Sunday. I could tell by his tone he was excited.
Having caught the “biggest” of fish is saying something for Dangerous Dan, because in recent history Dan has caught a lot of steelhead, and many big ones.
