The official call for entries in the second annual Northwest Wisconsin Regional Business Idea Contest was announced by Scottie Sandstrom and Bill Whalen, members of the Lake Superior Chapter of the Wisconsin Innovation Network
Even to the untrained eye, as last week’s Germann Road fire still smoldered, a pattern was obvious: Of those cabins and homes that burned, many were tucked tight into the forest. Of those nearby that still stood when the smoke cleared, many had large, open yards.
The largest forest fire to hit Wisconsin in three decades has been contained. The fire began in Gordon on Tuesday afternoon and traveled more than eight miles into Barnes and Highland, gobbling up 8,131 acres and destroying 47 structures.
A day after a wildfire consumed nearly 9,000 acres and 47 structures in Douglas County, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, in conjunction with the National Weather Service, has announced that a Red Flag Warning is in effect today in Florence and Marinette counties and all DNR burning permits suspended statewide today.
