They are a pair of small, nondescript wood-framed buildings tucked away in an obscure corner of the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore's mainland facility at Little Sand Bay.
Behind the locked steel doors of the two structures is a treasure trove of artifacts that are tied in with the storied history of the national lakeshore; the material things that tell the rich history of the islands.

Apostle Islands National Lakeshore subject to Wisconsin firearms laws
A change in federal law, effective today, allows people who can legally possess firearms under federal, Wisconsin, and local laws to possess those firearms in Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.
Madeline Island is presently the permanent home for about 300 people. It also attracts thousands of visitors each year. In summertime, visitors reach the island by car ferry or boat. A winter visit to the island means crossing the ice.
