Computers, like humans, can learn. But when Google tries to fill in your search box based only on a few keystrokes, or your iPhone predicts words as you type a text message, it's only a narrow mimicry of what the human brain is capable.

Scientists at the University of Wisconsin-Superior and researchers from laboratories, universities and businesses around the Midwest will discuss their latest work in bio-fuel technology at the first Biofuels and Energy Independence Symposium from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at UWS Rothwell Student Center.
Children and adults can explore the marvels of chemistry, biology, physics, geology, zoology and astronomy when University of Wisconsin-Superior students present Science Night 6-9 p.m. Friday in Barstow and McCaskill halls on the UWS campus.
