As people gather to bake cookies, exchange gifts and enjoy the holidays, a number of Northland families will spend the season apart from loved ones.
Last week, members of the 148th Air National Guard in Duluth were deployed to Afghanistan.
About 60 people gathered at the Superior school forest recently to spend time with family and make Christmas decorations. The sweet scent of balsam filled the air as parents and children worked together to make the perfect wreath.
The Silver Bay Veterans Home fills with the sound of music Saturday. Instead of traditional holiday fare, the veterans can tap their toes to the “Beer Barrel Polka” and “Just Because” courtesy of Mingo’s Polka Band.
