Legislative leaders on Monday announced a budget-repair package they intend to pass over the next two days — a plan Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle said he expects to rework with vetoes when it hits his desk.
A month after legislative leaders and Gov. Jim Doyle went behind closed doors to plug a budget shortfall caused by the weakening economy, they have yet to emerge with an agreement. But there are signs that progress is being made.

The state is facing some rough fiscal times ahead, Gov. Jim Doyle said Wednesday in his annual State of the State Address to Wisconsin legislators.
“Make no mistake; challenging days are ahead,” he said, citing a slowdown in state revenues.
