Fees and freezes were the topics of discussion during Gov. Scott Walker’s visit to the University of Wisconsin-Superior Thursday. It was a chance, he said, to highlight a portion of the proposed state budget that hasn’t gotten a lot of attention.
The Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College Foundation announced that Erika Johnson and Paige Halverson, two law enforcement students currently attending the college, were awarded the Katie Poirier Law Enforcement Scholarships for 2012-2013. The students were selected from a group of outstanding applicants who are seeking careers in law enforcement.
As area students count down the days to summer vacation, the United Way of Superior-Douglas County is thinking ahead to fall. A “Stuff the Bus” campaign takes place through June 21. Its aim is to provide new school supplies for kids in need. How many children can use the fall boost? Too many, according to Kathi Madsen, executive director of the United Way of Superior-Douglas County.
Northland College has named Teege Mettille as its new director of admissions. Mettille serves as associate director of admissions at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wis. He will begin his duties June 24 at Northland.
The firehouse in Superior’s East End neighborhood once had three stalls. Now the home of the Old Firehouse & Police Museum, it only has two. The fate of that third stall was under scrutiny last week by University of Wisconsin-Superior students.
School may be out for the summer, but three Northland College professors are providing mini-lectures for the public on their favorite topics in an unconventional setting — the Delta Diner in Bayfield County.
