The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has closed Wolf Harvest Zone 1 to hunting and trapping of gray wolves effective at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
At that time, the zone is closed to any further hunting and trapping of wolves for the 2013-2014 wolf harvest season.
For years, Douglas County has had an ordinance in place allowing hunters to leave tree stands overnight on county land, provided they meet specific requirements.
Recently, people have begun to abuse the rule by putting up "decoy" stands.
Wolves killed four hunting dogs in Wisconsin over the weekend, including one in Douglas County, and one hunting dog Monday. The depredations came a week after the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources issued a reminder to hunters to exercise caution during this year’s bear training and hunting season.

Douglas County notched its first tally in Wisconsin’s inaugural wolf hunting season Friday.
The Department of Natural Resources reports a female wolf was trapped in at 11:30 a.m. Friday within Douglas County.
