Spartans' 1986 football team to be honored Friday night
Back in mid-August of 1986, 97 friends, teammates and strangers began the process of learning how to be a team. Coach Larry Hoff welcomed 24 returning lettermen in that group of 56 juniors and seniors and 41 sophomores. The Spartans were looking to improve on 1985’s 7-2 record, including a 3-2 conference mark.

MAPLE — The Northwestern High School football team opened its season Friday with a 34-12 victory over the Ashland Oredockers. The Tigers recovered two Ashland fumbles in the first quarter to get off to a 13-0 start. Northwestern then added another pair of touchdowns in the second quarter to go up 27-0 at halftime.
