Nation’s generosity overwhelming in face of tragedy
As I submit this update 12 days after Newtown, Conn., suffered its most devastating tragedy, our community is still in a deep state of shock and grieving for those lost and the many others who will bear the burden of what they witnessed at the Sandy Hook School on Dec. 14. But thanks to the increasing sensitivity of media outlets covering the story, our families, our own local and regional clergy, and the world community that has wrapped Newtown in its collective arms — signs of healing are beginning to present.

Regular season winners don't always make champions
A year ago, the Green Bay Packers rested their regulars in the season finale and they lost their edge, becoming the first 15-1 team to lose its first playoff game — to a New York Giants team that was 7-7 in mid-December and went on to win it all.

A lot on the line for Vikings, Packers in finale
The Packers (11-4) have won 10 of their last 11 following a shaky start and need a win for a first-round bye and the chance to open another push for the Super Bowl in the comforts of home. Rodgers is rolling like the reigning MVP that he is. Clay Matthews, Greg Jennings and Jordy Nelson have returned from injuries to get the Packers as close to full strength as they've been in months.
