John R. Rose, 83, of Maple, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2013 at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth after a two year battle with cancer.
He was born on July 9, 1930 in Superior.
John worked at CLM (Cutler-Magner) Lime Docks in Superior for 50 years until his retirement in 1994.
He liked fishing, hunting, scuba diving and agate collecting. He also enjoyed wood carving and building and repairing things out of his machine shop. He was an avid NASCAR fan.
John is survived by his wife, Loretta Rose of 62 years; five children, John (Sharon) Rose, South Range, Virginia Rose, Superior, James (Pat) Rose, Florida, Steve Rose, Clearwater, Minn. and Tim (Linda) Rose, Maple; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Tom (Sandra) Rose and Allen (Debbie) Avery, both of Minneapolis, Minn. and Terry (Luann) Avery, South Range; one sister, Renee (Richard) Nelson, South Range; sister-in-law, Betty Rose.
He is preceded in death by his brother Fred Rose.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
The Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior is assisting the family with arrangements.
