Diane Marie Russenberger Custer, 48, of Buffalo, Minn. passed away on Oct. 3, 2013 after a long illness from NF2.
Diane was born on Jan. 8, 1965, to Doris (Schmidt) and Bernie Russenberger in Trimont, Minn. She attended Omsby Elementary School, Waseca High School and graduated from the Minnesota Academy for the Blind in Fairbault, Minn. She continued her education at St. Mary's Community College where upon graduation she began her employment with Hennepin County Social Services. During that time, Diane met and married the love of her life, Dan Custer. Dan has been by her side every step of the way showing true love and devotion. Diane was an avid runner. She participated in the National Olympics for the Blind in St. Louis, Mo. and the International Olympics for the Blind where she came in 7th out of 52 countries.
Diane is preceded in death by her mother, Doris; sister Susan Kotz; brother, Barry Russenberger; maternal grandparents, Helen and Alfred Schmidt; paternal grandfather, Ben Russenberger.
Diane is survived by her husband, Dan of Buffalo, Minn.; father, Bernie (Barb) Russenberger, Superior; brother, Brett (Pam) Russenberger of Adel, Iowa; step-sister, Amy Greskoviak of Superior; step-brother, Ryan (Abbi) Gresoviak of Phoenix, Ariz.; grandmother, Ruth Russenberger of Trimont, Minn.; niece, Amber (Harry) Kotz-Villella of Lauderdale, Minn. She is cherished by all of her extended family; mother and father-in-law, Carolyn and Dean Custer of Annandale, Minn.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Kathy and Dean Dahlgren of Andover, Minn., Rick and Laura Custer of Loretto, Minn. and their children.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 11 a.m. at The Peterson Chapel, Buffalo, Minn.. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the chapel. Interment at Cedar Lutheran Cemetery, Martin County, Minn.
