Doris Mae Drinkwine, 87, died peacefully at Golden Living Nursing Home in Hayward, Wis., after a long illness.
Doris was born in Detroit, Mich., to Frank and Lillian (Wilhelmson) Dodd on Nov. 30, 1925. Doris attended Central High School in Superior and was employed during her young life in Superior as a bookkeeper and salesperson. During her later life and after her family was raised, Doris tended bar at many of the local establishments in the Barnes area. Doris was also a lifetime member of the Barnes Ladies Auxiliary.
During her life Doris enjoyed boating, swimming, water skiing and pontoon boating on Robinson Lake. She also cherished many friendships throughout her life.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband Walter Drinkwine who died May 16, 1999.
Doris leaves behind two sons, Jack (Susan) and Daniel Drinkwine; three grandchildren Kate Drinkwine, Oak Park, Ill., Adam (Jennifer) Drinkwine, Wascott, and Angela (Jeremy) Tilsen, White Bear, Minn.; and two great grandchildren, Adam and Isacc Tilsen.
There will be a graveside memorial service at the Barnes Memorial Cemetery at 1 p.m. Sunday Sept. 15 with a luncheon to follow at the Barnes VFW.
In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting memorials be sent to Daniel Drinkwine, 2623 N 28th St., Superior, WI 54880 or at the memorial service. All memorials will be donated to the Barnes Ladies Auxiliary.
