John Raymond Higgins passed away peacefully on June 15, 2013 at Angel Hospital in Franklin, N.C., just 3 weeks shy of his 92nd birthday.
John Higgins was born on July 6, 1921 to John H. and Gertie Higgins in Ladysmith Wis. They later moved to Superior where he attended school and graduated from Superior Central High School. John was a World War II AAF veteran who served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.
On May 3 1947 he married Mary Jane Russom, the love of his life for over 66 years. In 1957 they purchased the Four Corners Store outside of Superior and owned the store until 1973. Prior to selling the store they built Pattison Park Golf Course. John and Mary Jane ran the golf course until 1982, when they retired to Florida. They moved to Franklin, N.C. in 1990. They enjoyed many years of golf, traveling in their RV, family and friends. John also enjoyed woodworking, and a game of cribbage.
He is survived by his wife Mary Jane; two daughters Rosemary Disbrow, Debbie (John) Demulling; son J. Douglas (Geronica) Higgins, one sister Jeanne Peterson, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents and brother Roger A Higgins.
John was a member of the New Hope Presbyterian Church, and currently a member of the Hickory Knoll Methodist Church.
John was a gentle, kind soul who was greatly loved. He will be remembered and missed by all.
