Violet "Vi" Visger, 76, passed away May 1, 2013. Violet was the second of eight children born to Ione (Hall) and Bernie Featherly, one of only two girls. She was born August 18, 1936 in Minong, Wis.
She attended rural schools in the towns of Chicog, Bashaw and Beaver Brook as well as schools in Shell Lake, Drummond and Minong. She graduated, from Northwood High School as Salutatorian in Minong in 1954. Violet was also a cheerleader from the fifth grade through high school.
She married her high school sweetheart, Elmer L. "Buckey" Visger, on May 10, 1954 and they had four sons. They lived in various military cities in the United States during his twenty years on active duty, which also included four years in Japan as Buckey made a career in the Air Force.
When her mother became terminally ill in 1970, Violet returned to Minong to care for her. Buckey followed as soon as he could arrange a humanitarian transfer from Minot and completed his military career serving at the Duluth Air Base, while commuting from Minong. He retired in 1972 and he and Violet made their retirement home in their hometown of Minong.
Violet was preceded in death by her husband Buckey in 1985; her parents, Ione in 1971 and Bernie Featherly in 1995; her son Elmer L. “Butch” Visger II in 2007; her brothers Clyde in 1982, Phil in 1985 and Garry in 2005.
Violet is survived by her three sons Al (Darcy) of Minong, Wis.; Jeff (Donna) of La Vergne, Tenn. and David (Mary Rubel) of St. Louis Park, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her very special sister Brenda (James) Jelinek of Orion, Ill. as well as her brothers David (Barbara) of Beaver Brook, Wis.; Cal (Peggy) of Minong, Wis., Ken (Michelle Downs)of Trego, Wis. and Jerrold (Jamie Greisen) of Rice Lake, Wis.; four aunts; one uncle; many nieces and nephews; as well as countless cousins and numerous friends.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 6, 2013 at 1:00 PM (visitation 11 AM-1PM) at Calvary Lutheran Church in Minong with Pastor Sara Pearson officiating. Music will be provided by Pastor Arvid Sundet and Haylee Hershey. Interment will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Minong. Pallbearers will be her grandsons Scott Visger, Chad Visger, Richard Visger, Brandon Visger, Elmer L. "Tony" Visger III and Andy Husband. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters and her goddaughters Stacey Visger, Jaime Romsos, Jenni Thayer, Amy Husband, Taryn Dunlap and Karleen Featherly-Underhill.
