Carol A. Sitek, 66, Superior resident, died Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

Carol A. Sitek, 66, Superior resident, died Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on Dec. 4, 1946 in Duluth to Henry and Avis (Parker) Malzac.

Carol was the owner/operator of the Loading Zone Bar and was a member of the Douglas County Tavern League.

She enjoyed gardening, especially her vegetable and flower gardens. She also enjoyed playing cards, gambling, loved cooking, doing crossword and piece puzzles, traveling and camping.

Carol is survived by two daughters, Laura (Lance) Hanson and Nichole (Michael) Haithcock, both of Duluth; four sons, Richard (Kelly) Horvatich, Robert (Christine) Horvatich, both of Superior, Paul Horvatich, Yankton, S.D. and Douglas (Charlotte) Hanson, Bennett; 12 grandchildren, Kimberly Anderson, Derrick Horvatich, Patrick (Jenny) Hanson, Meghan Hanson, Maria Horvatich, Wyatt Thompson, Amanda Horvatich, Vincent Hoeffling, Paul Horvatich, Nathan Haithcock, McKenzie Haithcock and Gage Hanson; four great-grandchildren, Emma Hanson, Jasper Hanson, Abby Horvatich and Brooklyn LeMeir; four sisters, Sharon (Dave) Rowell, Duluth, Alice (Michael) Younger, Riverside, Calif., Lois Judkins, Alaska and Kathy Daws, Calif.; two brothers, Peter (Shirley) Malzac and Kenneth Daws, both of Calif.; several nieces, nephews and many friends and her beloved canine child "Peaches".

She is preceded in death by her parents, son Michael Horvatich and former husband Richard F. Horvatich.

Visitation will begin at 12 Noon on Tuesday, March 19 in the Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Avenue, Superior and continue until the 2 p.m. memorial service with Chaplin Ron Henley of Essentia Health St. Mary's Hospital officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior at a later date.

To all of Carols family members accept our deepest Sympathy for your loss. I knew her for a brief Time as she would visit my sales n have a Relaxing conversation.Her and Peaches. Such a bright spot in my day. She will be missed. Ron n barb johnson.

To all Carols family and friends , sorry for your loss . Carol always had the personality to make me smile , she was kind and caring . I'm sure she will be missed by many as she was a friend to many in the community .
