Aileen Olson, 93, passed away on March 9, 2013, at the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, Minn.

Aileen Olson, 93, passed away on March 9, 2013, at the Solvay Hospice House in Duluth, Minn.

She was born on Sept. 1, 1919, in Superior, Wis. Her parents were Louis and Rose (Myers) Sylvester. She graduated from Superior Central High School in 1937. Aileen met the love of her life, Oliver Olson in 1935, and they were married at Holy Assumption Church in Superior, Wis. on Sept. 20, 1943. Ollie and Aileen celebrated 68 years of marriage on Sept. 20, 2011. They also spent 33 years as ‘Sunbirds” in the Melbourne, Fla. area.

Aileen was a very sociable woman, enjoying her time with friends in her “Red Hat Ladies” groups and her “Rusty Hinges” swim class. She was a long standing member of the Catholic Daughters of the America.

She touched the lives of all that knew and loved her.

Aileen was preceded in death by her husband Oliver on March 27, 2012, father and mother Louis and Rose Sylvester, brother Louis and sister Mary Gustafson.

Aileen is survived by her sons; Roger (Sharon), David (Judy), Douglas (Carol), Paul, Jeff (Vicki) and daughter; Cathy (David) Gotsky. Grandchildren; Kim Laible, Kris Berg, Scott Olson, Eric Olson, Kevin Olson, James Olson, Sandy Peterson, Cameron Olson, Rita Cubert, Erin Pink, Ross Olson, Adrea Olson, Natalie Olson, Adam Olson, Lee Olson, Alex Olson, Jason Gotsky and Ian Gotsky. Oliver and Aileen had 26 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The celebration of Aileen’s life will be on Friday, March 22 at the Holy Assumption Church, 5601 Tower Ave, Superior, Wis. Aileen was baptized, married, baptized all her children and her funeral will all be in the same church she loved and grew up in. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude with a Mass at 11 a.m. Internment of the ashes will be at Calvary Cemetery at a later date.

My sympathies to all of the Olson kids. South Superior was a great place to grow up in. I ran into your mother after mass at Holy Assumption about 4-5 years ago when my wife and I were visiting back there. I remember he gracious smile every time she saw me. You are in our prayers. Roger and Dave, My sympathies to you and your family upon the passing of your mother. Roger, I remember spending alot time at your home when we were children. Both your parents always treated us neighbor kids nice. Curt Wallin
