Gladys F. Mead, 98, of Spooner died March 12, 2013, at Spooner Health System Hospital. Gladys was born on Feb. 28, 1915, in Marmarth, N.D. to George and Anna Jensen.

Gladys F. Mead, 98, of Spooner died March 12, 2013, at Spooner Health System Hospital. Gladys was born on Feb. 28, 1915, in Marmarth, N.D. to George and Anna Jensen.

Gladys came to Solon Springs, Wis. with her family as a small child. She attended Solon Springs School and graduated from Central High School in Superior.

Gladys was a member of the Congregational Church, now the First Presbyterian Church in Solon. It was here that she and Wayne E. Mead were married on April 20, 1934.

They made their home in Superior for most of her life. She later attended WITC School of Nursing as an LPN. She worked in various area hospitals and later as a volunteer coordinator for Parkland Health Facility for a number of years. While living in Superior she was a member of the Hammond Avenue Presbyterian Church, it's Women's Organizations, Board of Deacons and assisted with their Girl Scout Troop. She later retired back to Solon where she again was active with the First Presbyterian Church and was active in the Women's Organizations.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne in 1980; her parents George and Anna Jensen; sisters Rose Christie, Lola Hunt and Mary Seater; and brother Lloyd Jensen.

She is survived by her daughter Sandra (Charles) Johnson; three grandchildren Tim (Caren) Johnson, Tammy (Gary) Hayes, and Todd (Lisa) Johnson; eight great grandchildren Blake, Brandon, Beth, Lindsey, Michael, Morgan, Gracie and Ana; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. until the 12 Noon funeral service Saturday, March 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Spooner with Rev. Russ Leeper officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at the Evergreen Cemetery in Solon Springs. Arrangements were entrusted to Taylor Family Funeral Home, Spooner. Sorry to hear about your Mom. She lived a good long life. It is so hard to let your loved ones go but, she is in a better place. We are in AZ.for the winter. It is 94 degrees today and I am ready to go home. We are here Nov.1 to April 1. Sally (Anderson) Peterson
