George Gothner Sr., 76, lifelong Superior resident and well known businessman, died Monday, March 11, 2013.
George Gothner Sr., 76, lifelong Superior resident and well known businessman, died Monday, March 11, 2013, peacefully in his home surrounded by his family following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born June 13, 1936, in Superior, to George A. and Rose (McCleod) Gothner.
He graduated from the former East High School and was a self-employed businessman.
George enjoyed golf, movies, baseball, football and traveling to California. He also enjoyed going to work every day, and was never known to pass up a good game of cribbage and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
George is survived by one daughter, Jeananne (Dennis) Anderson, Riverside, Calif.; two sons, George (Toni) Gothner Jr., and Gary (Terri LaTour) Gothner, both of Superior; five grandchildren, Kevin (Mirna) and Steven Anderson, Katie, Emilee and Hanna Gothner; one sister, RoseMary Gothner, Superior; one niece Kristi (John) Schottenbauer; two grandnephews, Noah and Luke; one grandniece, Molly; and longtime friend, former wife, and mother of George’s children, Nancy Akey, Superior.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial services was held Wednesday, March 13 at Bayside Baptist Church in Superior.
Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior at a later date.
Honorary pallbearers for the service will be son-in-law, Dennis Anderson and his sons, Kevin and Steven Anderson, grandnephews, Noah and Luke Schottenbauer, and their father, John, Johnathan LaTour and longtime friends, Bob Kervina, Mickey Nielson, Fred Piper and Mark Cummings.
The Downs-LeSage Funeral Home, 1304 Hammond Ave., Superior, assisted the family with arrangements.
