Walt married Bernice Thielen and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the Pacific Coast.

After the war, Walt worked in his Dad's creamery until he found work at Lakehead Pipeline. He worked at Lakehead Pipeline for 31 ½ years, retiring as a purchasing manager. He started at Deer River, Minn. and then transferred to Bemidji, Minn.; Buffalo, N.Y. and Bay City, Mich. In 1967, he transferred to Superior, Wis. and worked there until his retirement in 1985.

Walt was a very gentle, loving, kind person and shared these virtues and his deep faith by volunteering and serving as a lay minister at St. Francis Nursing Home, Villa-Marina, the hospitals in Superior and Duluth and the parishes he attended.

He was a past member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW), Knights of Columbus, Nemadji Golf Course and Toastmasters International.

He is preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Ervin, Ralph, Virgil, Luverne, Elmer and Daniel and two sisters, Lucille and Alice.

The family would like to thank Solvay Hospice House, Villa-Marina and Golden Living for their tender, loving care he received from them.

Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. until the 12 Noon Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, March 11, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Rev. James Tobolski as celebrant.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation and Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
