Vernette M. Nystrom, 91, of Superior, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013 at the Stardusk House.

Vernette M. Nystrom, 91, of Superior, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013 at the Stardusk House.

Vernette was born on Nov. 30, 1921 and raised on a dairy farm in Ashland Wis., the daughter of Samuel and Florence Jensen.

She graduated from Ashland High School with the class of 1939. She married Willard Nystrom on July 25, 1942 in Waukegan, Ill. when he was stationed at the Great Lakes Naval Station. They were then transferred to San Francisco, Calif. where she worked in the Corps of Engineers Office. They eventually made their home back in Ashland until 1960 when they moved to Superior. They celebrated 56 years of marriage together.

Vernette was a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her family of two children, six grandchildren and 14 children. She liked to travel, read three newspapers a day to keep up with current events and was an avid Wisconsin and Green Bay Packers Fan. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Willard; grandson, Bryan Nystrom; son-in-law, Bill Manion; four brothers, Arnold, Melvin, Duane and Don; and a sister, Ruth.

Vernette is survived by her son, Richard (Ruth) Nystrom of Superior; daughter, Barbara Manion of Superior; grandchildren, Stacy Nystrom of Minnetonka, Minn., Leslie (Dave) Defries of Rosemount, Minn., Kristy (Mike) Jelen of Lakeville, Minn., Kristin (Rob) Maas of Plymouth, Minn., Jeffrey (Kalli) Manion of Superior and David (Marlene) Manion of Hermantown; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin one hour prior to her memorial service on Friday, Feb. 22 at 11 a.m. at Downs Funeral Home, corner of 19th Street and Ogden Avenue. Rev. Will Mowchan of Pilgrim Lutheran Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the Stardusk House for their kind and compassionate care.
