Marilyn E. Sjostrom, 75, Athens, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, Wis. with her loving husband by her side.
Marilyn E. Sjostrom, 75, Athens, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield, Wis. with her loving husband by her side.
She was born Feb. 19, 1937 in Superior, daughter of the late Harris and Blanch (Johnson) Jennings.
Marilyn graduated from Superior Central High School and from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. On Dec. 27, 1960, she married Jerome Sjostrom at Bethel Lutheran Church in Superior.
They have been residents of Athens, Wis. since 1961.
Marilyn was the librarian and taught English for two years in Osceola, Wis. For many years, she was a substitute teacher and babysat for many friends. Marilyn was a wonderful homemaker and loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She wrote the Centennial Book for Trinity Lutheran Church and the Village of Athens. She was the secretary for the Marathon County Historical Society and the cookie chairman for the Athens Girl Scouts for many years. Among her favorite pastimes, she enjoyed bowling and had a great passion for collecting antiques and genealogy. Over a period of years, she wrote the Sjostrom Genealogy and was a founding member of the Marathon County Genealogical Society.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Jerome Sjostrom, Athens, Wis.; three sons, Keith (Mary Ann) Sjostrom, Des Moines, Iowa, Kevin (Mike Cardinal) Sjostrom, St. Paul, Minn. and Peter (Tammie) Sjostrom, Hayward, Wis.; and two grandchildren, Aaron and Jacob.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 11, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Athens, Wis. Rev. Andrew Alberts officiated. Burial will be in Athens Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, Athens was in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Marilyn's name.
