Barbara Jean (Swanson) Ruckdashel, 82, of Fargo, N.D., formerly of Superior, died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013 at Bethany Homes University Campus, Fargo.

Barbara Jean (Swanson) Ruckdashel, 82, of Fargo, N.D., formerly of Superior, died peacefully Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013 at Bethany Homes University Campus, Fargo.

She was born Feb. 16, 1930 in Superior, daughter of Charles and Burnice (McMullen) Swanson.

On July 7, 1952 in Superior, Barbara Swanson and Robert Ruckdashel were united in marriage.

As a native of Superior, Barb graduated from Superior Central High School in 1948 and then the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

Barb began teaching elementary school fresh out of college and continued until she turned 62 years old. She taught in Superior; Alexandria, Minn.; Montevideo, Minn.; Moorhead, Minn.; and Rosemont, Minn.; before signing on with the Department of Defense School District in 1981 and subsequently taught in Kerpen and Schwabisch Gmond, Germany for 11 years.

Barb had a passion for adventure that she shared with her family as well as friends and coworkers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents; and sister, Alice Ann Schold.

Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Roberta (Richard) Henderson, Moorhead, Minn., Richard (Candace) Ruckdashel, Apple Valley, Minn., Randolph (Margaret) Ruckdashel, Chaska, Minn., and Ronald (Karen) Ruckdashel, Hastings, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Roy D. Schold, and nephew, Michael Schold, both of Highland, Ind.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15 at Downs Funeral Home, 1617 N. 19th Street, Superior, and will resume at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16 until the 11 a.m. service, with Rev. Nathan Castens officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Superior.
