Nancy Raye (Hofstedt) Homan

Nancy Raye (Hofstedt) Homan, 64, lost her courageous battle with ALS on Feb. 5, 2013. Nancy was a lifelong resident of Brule, with a long teaching career in the Maple School District where she taught for 37 years. She was a strong supporter of the Northwestern High School athletic program and performing arts, a loving wife and mother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed but we are comforted in the thought that she is now at peace.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Alice and Ray Hofstedt, brothers Bruce and Raymond.

She is survived by her loving husband, soul mate and caregiver Jack, daughters Hilary (Jerry) Martineau, Alicia Homan and Pamela (Brian) Zitelman, sisters Denise Finley, Sheila (Mario Pino) Hofstedt, Sandee (Jim) Byrd, brother Michael Hofstedt, step-mother Betty Hofstedt, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

Nancy had the “Hofstedt” sense of humor that helped her and her family get through very difficult times. She taught us all a final lesson in courage and dignity in these last few months. She will be remembered in the hearts of many for the impact she made on our lives, always being there to help others, a social “diva” and lover of life.

A celebration of the life of Nancy who gave and received so much love, will fittingly be held on Valentine’s Day, Thursday, February 14 at 4 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to at the Peace Lutheran Church in Poplar Wisconsin. Memorials preferred to the ALS society. Thank you to the local ALS Chapter, the outstanding staff at the Mayo ALS Clinic and her large network of friends for their love and support during the very devastating battle with ALS.
