Emily E. "Babe" Szymonowicz, 87, of Superior, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Superior.
Emily E. "Babe" Szymonowicz, 87, of Superior, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Superior.
Emily was born in Superior on Aug. 3, 1925 the daughter of Vincent and Martha Herubin.
While residing in Milwaukee, Wis., she graduated high school in 1944. She went on to marry Stanley Szymonowicz Oct. 5, 1946, celebrating 39 years of marriage. During her younger years, she worked various jobs to include working in a Milwaukee bakery, a welder during the war and at St. Joseph's Hospital in Billings Park.
She was an avid bowler and also played softball. She enjoyed 18 years of vacations on Persons Lake as well as camping in Gordon for years to come.
Babe was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; son, Robert Szymonowicz; daughter, Kathleen Flike; brothers and sisters, Chester, John, Verna, Margaret, and Gertrude; and a niece-in-law, Cindy Szymonowicz.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Andrea Flike of Superior; son-in-law James Flike of Superior; nephews, Dennis "Smutz" (Jeannie) Szymonowicz and their children, Jesse, Spencer and Sterling of Superior, Tommy Szymonowicz, of Superior, John V. Szymonowicz of Pengilly, Minn., and Gary Herubin of Virginia, Minn.; and a niece Johnette Jackson of South Carolina.
Visitation will begin one hour prior to her 11 a.m. memorial Mass on Thursday, Jan. 31 at Cathedral of Christ the King Church with Rev. Fr. Andrew P. Ricci as celebrant. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery in the spring.
Emily's family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff at Fresenius Dialysis of Superior for their years of care and support during her weekly treatments. A special "thank you" to the ACU staff at Golden Living for their kindness and compassion during her last months.
