Gerald L. "Jerry" Martinson, 78 of Iron River passed away Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Superior April 21, 1934 to William and Minnie (Hanson) Martinson.
Jerry grew up in Cloverland, where he attended grade school and graduated from Northwestern High School in 1952. He enlisted in the Army and served from 1956 to 1962, receiving awards for sharp shooting. Jerry returned to Cloverland, eventually falling in love and marrying Lillian (Joan) Morey of Brule in 1962. Jerry and Joan had a wonderful life together devoted to family, faith and the outdoors. Jerry enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, hiking, camping, snowmobiling, and four-wheeling around the woods and on the lakes and rivers he loved. He was a well-known and respected contractor and builder in the area and his craftsmanship will live on in the many homes, cabins, and public buildings he remodeled and built in the area. But of most importance is the love and legacy he leaves behind in his children and grandchildren, of a life well-lived by a soft spoke, kind, humble, and talented man. The family extends heartfelt thanks to his may devoted caregivers over the past two and a half years at Ashland Health and Rehabilitation Center.
He is survived by his sons, Andrew (Bonnie Tuura) Martinson of Iron River and David Martinson of Iron River; a daughter, Dawn Trelstad, Superior; four grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved wife; parents; sister Marvel Pederson; two brothers Wyman "Marty" and Robert Martinson and other dear family and friends.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral services Friday, Jan. 18 at Frost Home for Funerals in Ashland, with Rev. Richard Blood officiating.
Spring interment will be in the Iron River City Cemetery.

The memories are many with each one treasured. The Marttinson's are a wonderful family. Jerry was an exemplary person as was Joni. Our family loved them dearly. Jerry is now with his beloved Joni and in perfect health most likely building something for God. My sincerest condolences to each member of the Martinson family Mike JahnMaple, WI 01/17/2013 10:27 AM
